My hubby and I decided that we are going to try a new appetizer, hor devours or snack each Sunday during football.  We love trying new things and football games are a great excuse to have those fun little snacks you may not normally have.

Philly Cheese Steak Stuffed Peppers:

If you like Philly cheese steaks, chances are you’ll like these.  These are good but I preferred them once I cut them up and ate them with my homemade bread rather than just the way they are.  My hubby loved them without bread though so I think it’s just a preference thing.  The flavor was great either way though!

1 lb beef roast

1/2 of a small onion, cut

14 oz beef broth

2 TBSP italian dressing

4 medium bell peppers

6 oz bella mushrooms, sliced

2 tsp minced garlic

2 TBSP olive oil

grated mozzarella cheese

In a crock pot combine beef broth, italian dressing and onions.  Mix together and add roast and cook on medium in slow cooker ’til thoroughly cooked, maybe slightly pink.  Be sure to pull apart into small pieces as it’s slow-cooking.

After your roast is done preheat your oven to 350°.  Next wash, half and seed your bell peppers.  In a medium sized frying pan combine olive oil, mushrooms, green onions and garlic and sauté over medium heat until mushrooms are just turning golden, mix in the pulled roast pieces.

Be sure to dry your peppers and put a layer of grated cheese along the bottoms and sides of the pepper halves.  Next add the steak mixture and top with more grated cheese.  Place on a non-greased cookie sheet or 9×13 pan and bake for 15-20 mins.

Enjoy while warm!
